6. ISSCO and Journal of Chinese Overseas
Editor of Journal of Chinese Overseas Tan Chee Beng reported on the progress of the journal. The publishing house Brill in Holland has proposed to take over the printing and distribution of the journal. Wang Gungwu mentioned that when taking up the issue with the Board of the Chinese Heritage Centre regarding the possible change of publisher he would put forward the views of ISSCO’s Board that in the negotiations with publishers the interests of ISSCO-members should be considered to enable ISSCO members to continue to receive the journal at a preferential price. Tan Chee Beng moreover noted that to secure ISSCO a continued presence in the Board of the journal, it would be advantageous to propose to the Board of Chinese Heritage Centre some policy on periodic exchanges of editorial members and editors. Mette Thunoe agreed and recommended that given the significant number of ISSCO subscribers to the journal the editorial board should reflect in a significant number of formal and active ISSCO members. It was suggested that the Board discusses these issues by email in the near future.

It was decided within a month to further investigate the bid to hold a regional conference from Panama by communication directly between the coming new President and Juan Tam. Peter Li suggested a back-up plan in case Panama would be unable to arrange the conference and suggested Chinese University in HK as host. Other options for coming regional conferences included New Zealand, Malaysia and Reunion (France). These will be investigated by the newly elected board.

Leo Suryadinata reported that the international conference in Singapore to be held in 2010 should be hosted by two institutions: the Chinese Heritage Centre and Nanyang Technical University. This proposal was accepted by the Board.
